Former President Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani held their first official meeting this past Saturday, choosing a Bronx childcare center as the venue for their encounter.

Rather than focusing on the pressing issues facing New York City, the pair spent their time leading a group of preschoolers in renditions of 'The Wheels on the Bus' and a song from a K-pop film. During the event, Obama joked about his age as the children reacted to the performance.

Mamdani later took to social media to frame the meeting as a discussion regarding his administration's vision for the city, claiming they aimed to ensure the youngest residents have a 'strong start.' While the optics of the visit were clearly designed to project a lighthearted image, the meeting serves as the latest example of the current political establishment prioritizing public relations stunts over the serious governance required to address the city's ongoing challenges.
