Law enforcement has identified 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen as the gunman who attempted to carry out a violent attack at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Allen, a California resident, was intercepted by security after firing between five and eight shots inside the hotel.
Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed that preliminary investigations indicate the suspect specifically targeted administration officials, including President Trump. Allen was found armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives.
Despite the suspect's attempt to breach the perimeter, quick action by security agents ensured he was apprehended before he could reach his intended targets. The suspect, who reportedly traveled from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. via train, had authored a manifesto detailing his intent to attack members of the Trump administration.
Records indicate the suspect had previously donated to the Kamala Harris presidential campaign. He is now facing federal charges, including the use of a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer.
President Trump noted that the suspect harbored deep-seated hatred and possessed a clear ideological motive, further highlighting the dangerous climate fostered by those obsessed with targeting his administration.
