The safety of our schools was once again shattered when a student at Foss High School in Tacoma, Washington, allegedly turned a school hallway into a crime scene. Police were called to the campus at 13:35 local time following reports of an active assault.
By the time the situation was brought under control, five students and one security guard had been transported to the hospital. While initial reports indicated some victims were in critical condition, authorities have since confirmed that all six individuals are in stable condition.
The suspect, who also sustained minor injuries during the incident, was promptly apprehended by police and has been booked on five counts of first-degree assault. Tacoma Police Department spokeswoman Shelbie Boyd confirmed that the violence stemmed from an altercation, though the specific motive remains under investigation.
The school is set to remain closed through the end of the week, with plans to reopen on Monday. This incident marks another dark chapter for the school, which previously saw a fatal shooting in 2007.
As investigations continue, the focus remains on the immediate failure of campus security to prevent such a violent outburst and the ongoing need for strict accountability for those who threaten the lives of students and staff.
