A luxury vessel linked to a Putin-aligned billionaire successfully navigated the restricted waterway as Moscow and Tehran deepen their strategic alliance.

The 465-foot superyacht "Nord", linked to the sanctioned Russian oligarch Alexey Mordashov is seen docked, in Hong Kong.

While global shipping largely avoids the Strait of Hormuz due to the ongoing blockade initiated by the United States to counter Iranian aggression, a massive superyacht linked to a top Russian billionaire has brazenly sailed through the channel.

The 142-meter Nord, which features a helipad and submarine, is tied to Alexey Mordashov, a sanctioned oligarch and chairman of Severstal with close ties to Vladimir Putin. The vessel traveled from Dubai to Oman over the weekend, highlighting the continued defiance of international shipping norms by those within the Russian inner circle.

This transit comes as Moscow and Tehran move to solidify their partnership. On Monday, Putin hosted Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in St. Petersburg, where the two regimes praised their 'strategic relationship.' Putin explicitly backed Iran's efforts against American and Israeli influence, while Araghchi lauded Russia's support.

The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz—a vital artery for global energy supplies—remains a flashpoint in the standoff between the U.S. and Iran.

While private vessels have largely stayed clear of the area, the ability of a Russian-flagged luxury boat to navigate the route serves as a stark reminder of the geopolitical games being played by America's adversaries.
