A black machete lies on the train platform.

The streets of New York City remain a dangerous place for law-abiding citizens as another violent encounter unfolded at the city's busiest transit hub.

Anthony Griffin, 44, turned Grand Central Terminal into a scene of chaos on Saturday morning, wielding a machete and slashing three unsuspecting victims—an 84-year-old man, a 65-year-old man, and a 70-year-old woman. The injuries were severe, with victims suffering lacerations to the head and face, and in one case, an open skull fracture.

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the suspect exhibited erratic behavior, repeatedly identifying himself as 'Lucifer' while terrorizing commuters. When transit officers arrived on the scene, they were met with a clear and present threat.

Despite being issued at least 20 commands to drop his weapon, Griffin chose to escalate the situation, advancing toward the officers with the machete extended. The officers acted decisively and within their authority to protect the public, neutralizing the threat before any further harm could be done.

While the suspect had a history of three prior arrests, he was not previously flagged in NYPD records for mental health disturbances. The victims are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the necessity of a well-funded and empowered police force in an era where random, senseless violence continues to threaten public safety in our major cities.
