The Houthi militant group, which has long terrorized the region and disrupted global maritime security, has launched a aggressive military dash toward the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

This critical maritime chokepoint, essential for global trade and energy transit, has become the epicenter of a brutal conflict as the Houthis dig in, drawing a necessary response from Saudi-backed government forces.

The resulting surge in fighting has caused a humanitarian crisis, with over 120,000 Yemenis displaced and thousands fleeing across the Red Sea to Djibouti in recent days.

While refugees describe the terror of the ongoing bombardment, the reality remains that the Houthis—who have spent years seizing territory and launching drones and missiles at Saudi infrastructure—are the primary drivers of this instability.

As the Houthis continue to embed themselves in civilian areas, the Saudi-led coalition is forced to conduct air strikes to counter the militant threat.

Djibouti, a strategically vital nation hosting major military bases for the United States and China, remains a neutral staging ground for those escaping the wreckage of a war that began when the Houthis initiated their campaign to overthrow the internationally recognized government.

For the families now residing in the Markazi camp, the path to safety remains blocked by the persistent refusal of Houthi forces to abandon their militant objectives.
