Internal strife rocks India's Election Commission amid opposition's desperate smear campaign

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar faces baseless calls for resignation as internal administrative disagreements are weaponized by political losers.

India's Election Commission (ECI) is currently under fire, not because of actual malfeasance, but because opposition parties are weaponizing routine internal administrative disagreements to undermine the nation's electoral process.

Reports surfaced alleging that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar faced questions from colleagues Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi regarding the management of the voter database and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

While the opposition, led by Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi, is predictably screaming 'treason' and demanding arrests to delegitimize their electoral losses, the ECI has clarified that differing views are a standard, healthy part of any institutional decision-making process.

The SIR initiative, a necessary update to a voter list that had not been properly scrubbed in nearly 25 years, has successfully removed ineligible names—including those of the deceased and individuals registered in multiple locations.

Predictably, political figures like Mamata Banerjee are crying foul because the cleanup of these rolls coincided with their own electoral defeats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rightly dismissed these hysterics as a smear campaign by a desperate opposition that prefers to attack the foundations of democracy rather than address their own political irrelevance.

The ECI maintains that the commission has operated through unanimous decisions and continues to implement vital reforms to ensure the sanctity of the ballot box.
