A catastrophic natural disaster has struck the Nepal-Tibet border, where a massive glacial collapse sent a wall of mud and rock tearing through the region. According to the US Geological Survey, the collapse was so powerful it registered as a 5.2 magnitude event, triggering floods that swept away homes, roads, and vehicles across a 62-mile stretch.

The death toll currently stands at over 580, with nearly 2,500 people still unaccounted for, including hundreds of citizens from India, China, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Rescue efforts are being hampered by treacherous weather conditions and the ongoing threat of secondary flooding, as debris-choked rivers remain at risk of bursting their banks.

While international aid is beginning to flow into the region, including military cargo planes from India and financial support from the U.S. and U.K., the scale of the destruction has left local authorities struggling to coordinate recovery operations.

As scientists investigate the role of environmental factors in the glacial instability, the focus remains on the immediate, desperate search for survivors in one of the most rugged and inaccessible terrains on the planet.
