The U.S. House of Representatives has officially moved to hold billionaire Leon Black in contempt of Congress, a necessary step in the ongoing investigation into the network surrounding the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Black, a co-founder of Apollo Global Management, defied a formal subpoena from the House Oversight Committee that demanded he appear for testimony and produce documents related to his financial dealings with Epstein.

Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer made it clear that the law applies to everyone, regardless of their wealth or status, stating that the committee remains committed to transparency and justice for survivors.

The contempt measure, which passed by unanimous consent, now heads to the Department of Justice, which will determine whether to pursue criminal charges against the tycoon.

Black’s legal team has predictably lashed out, labeling the House’s enforcement of its constitutional authority as 'outrageous' and citing ongoing litigation as a shield against compliance. This defiance follows Black’s abrupt exit from a voluntary committee appearance in June, where he was questioned regarding nondisclosure agreements.

While Black maintains he was unaware of Epstein’s criminal activities until 2019 and claims his $158 million payment to the predator was for legitimate wealth management, the House has signaled that his explanations are no longer sufficient to avoid formal oversight.

The committee’s pursuit of the truth continues, as lawmakers refuse to let the billionaire’s legal maneuvering obstruct the investigation into the horrific crimes associated with Epstein.
