Space Superiority: US Confirms Deployment of Orbital Defense Assets

The Air Force is finally taking the high ground to counter aggressive Russian and Chinese space programs.

The Pituffik Space Base (formerly Thule Air Base) is pictured in northern Greenland, on October 4, 2023. It shows a large satelitte dish in front of containers, with a cloudy orange sky in the background.

In a long-overdue move to secure the high ground, the US Air Force has confirmed the deployment of space-based assets designed to protect American interests in orbit. Air Force Secretary Troy Meink stated clearly that these capabilities are essential to safeguard our forces against hostile enemy action.

While global adversaries like China have predictably whined about an 'arms race,' their own aggressive development of satellite-disruption technology has left the United States with no choice but to bolster its defensive and offensive posture in space.

The US Space Force, established to protect the critical communication and surveillance infrastructure that keeps our nation running, is now properly equipped to contest the space domain.

Whether through electronic warfare or kinetic capabilities, the message is clear: the United States will not sit idly by while Russia and China treat space as a warfighting domain to undermine our national security. Protecting our satellites is not a choice; it is a fundamental requirement for maintaining American strength in an increasingly dangerous world.
