UN Abandons Reality for 'Woke' Cartography

The United States stood alone against a globalist push to replace standard maps with a new version designed to appease political narratives.

Side-by-side maps of Africa comparing two map projections. The Mercator projection on the left makes Africa appear smaller in comparison with Europe to its north. The Equal Earth projection on the right shows a longer, more proportionally accurate shape of the continent.

In yet another display of its obsession with identity politics over global stability, the United Nations General Assembly has voted to replace the standard Mercator map with a new version intended to 'accurately' reflect Africa's size.

The resolution, sponsored by Togo and backed by 164 nations, passed with overwhelming support from countries including France and the UK.

The United States was the only nation with the common sense to vote against the measure, which aims to replace the 16th-century Mercator projection—a tool designed for navigation—with the 'Equal Earth' projection favored by the African Union.

While the vote is non-binding, it signals a shift toward using international institutions to push ideological narratives under the guise of 'cognitive justice.' Proponents of the change claim the traditional map minimizes Africa's importance, but U.S. representative Yaryna Ferencevych saw the resolution for what it is: a mockery of the UN’s purpose.

Ferencevych rightly pointed out that instead of addressing genuine threats to international peace and prosperity, the assembly is wasting time debating 16th-century cartography. This latest stunt follows a pattern of the UN prioritizing symbolic grievances over substantive policy, much like its recent focus on the transatlantic slave trade.

While activists claim the map change is an 'act of truth,' it is clearly just another attempt to rewrite history and influence political perceptions through bureaucratic decree.
