Ousted Ukrainian Defense Minister Fedorov Rejects Zelensky's Offer, Demands Reinstatement

The political standoff in Kyiv intensifies as the reformist minister refuses a secondary role, insisting he is the only one capable of executing the strategy for victory.

The political turmoil in Kyiv continues to boil over as Mykhailo Fedorov, the recently ousted defense minister, has flatly rejected President Volodymyr Zelensky's offer of a new government role.

Fedorov, who gained significant acclaim for his modernization of the Ukrainian military and the successful 'Army of Drones' initiative, insists that he is not interested in a consolation prize. Instead, he maintains that only the roles of president, defense minister, and commander-in-chief truly dictate the trajectory of the war.

Fedorov’s refusal to accept the position of deputy prime minister for military innovation leaves the Zelensky administration in a precarious position. While the president attempted to quell public unrest by firing the unpopular commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and replacing him with Mykhailo Drapatyi, the move has failed to satisfy Fedorov’s supporters.

Protesters continue to take to the streets, demanding that the man they view as the architect of Ukraine's recent battlefield successes be returned to his post.

Fedorov claims his team had a concrete plan to stabilize the front and strike the Russian economy, arguing that the current 'window of opportunity' to force peace through strength must not be squandered.

While presidential advisers claim negotiations are ongoing, Fedorov’s public defiance makes it clear that he views any position outside the defense ministry as insufficient to drive the radical reforms he believes are necessary for victory.

As the war of wills continues, the administration faces the fallout of sidelining a figure who many in Ukraine now view as indispensable.
