Trump Moves to Restore Ranchers' Rights by Targeting Endangered Wolf Protections

The administration is prioritizing the survival of the American beef industry over federal bureaucracy by reviewing the status of grey and Mexican wolf populations.

President Trump is taking decisive action to support the backbone of the American food supply chain by ordering a review of federal endangered species protections for grey and Mexican wolves. For too long, federal regulations have prioritized predator populations over the livelihoods of the ranchers who work to keep beef on American tables.

The executive order directs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to determine within 90 days if these wolf populations have sufficiently recovered to justify delisting them from the endangered species list.

This move comes as the administration works to combat record-high beef prices, exacerbated by environmental challenges and misguided trade policies that have squeezed domestic producers.

While radical environmental groups are predictably sounding the alarm, the administration is rightfully recognizing that ranchers play a vital role in our national heritage and economic security.

Despite existing compensation programs for livestock losses, the federal government’s heavy-handed protection of these predators has long been a source of frustration for those on the front lines of agriculture.

By initiating this review, the Trump administration is signaling that the era of prioritizing bureaucratic conservation goals over the economic survival of American farmers is coming to an end.
