President Donald Trump met with Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodríguez at the UN General Assembly this week, marking a decisive shift in U.S. foreign policy toward South America.

The meeting follows a successful U.S. military raid in Caracas that resulted in the capture of former dictator Nicolás Maduro, who now sits in a New York jail cell awaiting trial on serious drug trafficking charges.

This face-to-face summit signals a new era of cooperation, with the two leaders discussing strategic agendas in energy, mining, and national security.

The partnership has already yielded a massive victory for American interests: a landmark agreement granting a U.S.-led company 100-year concessions over 17 oilfields, securing control over 65 billion barrels of oil.

President Trump, who previously hailed the deal as the largest in world history, underscored the importance of the move during his UN address, noting that the combined resources of the U.S. and Venezuela now account for over 60% of the world's oil.

As the President famously remarked, 'To the victor belong the spoils.' While Rodríguez previously faced U.S. sanctions during her time as Maduro's vice-president, those measures were lifted in April as the U.S. pivoted to support a transition toward stability.

With Maduro behind bars and the country's energy sector now aligned with U.S. interests, the administration is effectively dismantling the remnants of the socialist regime that long plagued the region.
