The Senate has officially confirmed Todd Blanche as the nation's attorney general, ending a protracted standoff and placing a key ally at the helm of the Department of Justice. The 50-49 vote saw all Democrats unite in opposition, joined by Republican Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski.

The deciding vote was cast by Senator Bill Cassidy, who ultimately determined that Blanche was the most qualified choice to lead the department.

The confirmation process was marked by intense scrutiny from critics who fixated on Blanche’s previous role as President Trump’s personal lawyer and his involvement in proposed initiatives like the 'anti-weaponisation' fund.

Despite the noise from the left—led by Chuck Schumer, who predictably decried the move as an enablement of 'corruption'—Senate Republicans largely rallied behind the nominee. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley praised Blanche for his tenacity and clear qualifications throughout the grueling process.

With this confirmation, the Trump administration gains a critical partner in its efforts to reform the justice system and restore accountability to a department that has long been accused of politicization. Blanche, who has served as acting attorney general since April, now holds the mandate to implement the President’s vision for the rule of law.
