The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine reached a deadly turning point this week as Russian forces launched a precision ballistic missile strike on a drone technology exhibition near Kyiv.

The attack, which claimed the lives of at least 10 people and left approximately 100 injured, targeted an event attended by prominent members of the Ukrainian defense industry. Ukrainian air force spokesman Yuri Ihnat confirmed that three ballistic missiles were launched, with only one successfully intercepted.

The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed the strike targeted a facility where drone producers and security officials were coordinating operations against Russian territory.

This incident marks the third time such an exhibition has been hit since the 2022 invasion, sparking intense domestic criticism regarding the decision to hold a widely advertised public event in the middle of an active war. Beyond the Kyiv strike, Russian glide bombs killed five in Sloviansk, while additional casualties were reported in Sumy.

Ukraine has continued its own offensive operations, including a strike on a Russian aircraft component factory in Kirov and logistics hubs associated with the retailer Wildberries. As the death toll rises, President Volodymyr Zelensky faces mounting pressure to explain the security lapses surrounding the exhibition.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts remain in flux, with Zelensky scheduled to travel to the United States next week for meetings with President Donald Trump.
