A community in Upper Bavaria is reeling after a 16-year-old suspect launched a violent rampage at the Welfen-Gymnasium secondary school in Schongau. Authorities confirmed that two 13-year-old girls sustained serious injuries during the attack, though officials state their conditions are not currently life-threatening.

Police moved quickly to secure the scene, confirming that the suspect was armed with both a knife and a firearm at the time of the incident. While the investigation remains ongoing, Bavaria’s interior minister, Joachim Herrmann, indicated that the victims were likely stabbed and noted that the suspect had a history of psychiatric treatment.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the perpetrator may be a former student of the institution. Law enforcement officials have characterized the event as a 'rampage' and are working to clarify the full extent of the injuries and the details surrounding the suspect's motives.

As parents and families await answers, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the persistent threats facing schools and the urgent need for robust security measures to protect students from those who seek to do them harm.
