The visit, which follows a previously suspended trip due to China pressuring African nations to revoke flight permits, underscores Taiwan's commitment to maintaining its sovereign diplomatic relationships.
While Beijing predictably lashed out with childish insults, labeling the diplomatic mission a 'stowaway-style escape farce,' the reality is that a democratically elected leader is simply exercising his right to conduct routine state business. The U.S.
State Department correctly noted that such travel is standard and should not be politicized by hostile actors. President Lai was greeted by Eswatini Prime Minister Russell Dlamini, signaling a continued, defiant partnership between the two nations.
Despite Beijing’s ongoing campaign to coerce countries into severing ties with Taipei, President Lai remains firm, declaring that Taiwan will not be deterred by external pressure.
