A tragic aviation accident in the Bahamas has claimed the lives of all ten people on board, including nine passengers and the pilot. The Cessna 402, operated by Flamingo Air, was traveling from Lynden Pindling International Airport to San Andros Airport when it encountered mechanical difficulties and crashed into brush before reaching the runway.
The incident occurred on the Bahamas' 53rd independence anniversary, a day Prime Minister Philip Davis described as one of national mourning. While officials initially hoped for a survivor, all occupants ultimately succumbed to their injuries. In the wake of the disaster, the Ministry of Aviation has temporarily suspended Flamingo Air's operator certificate.
This grounding follows a separate incident on the same day, where another Flamingo Air flight was forced to return to Nassau after a fire erupted on board following landing. Aviation Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis characterized the suspension as a precautionary measure while the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority reviews the carrier's safety protocols.
Flamingo Air has stated it is cooperating with authorities as the investigation into the cause of the crash proceeds.
