The Saudi-led coalition successfully intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone south of Mecca on Tuesday, thwarting yet another attempt by the Iran-backed militia to strike at the heart of the Islamic world. Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki condemned the act as a disgraceful transgression against the site of Islam's most sacred shrine.

While the Houthis predictably resorted to their standard playbook of denials and accusations of fabrication, their record of targeting oil facilities, military bases, and civilian infrastructure speaks for itself.

This latest provocation comes as the Houthis continue their aggressive campaign to choke the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital artery for global commerce. Despite the clear and present danger posed by these proxies, the Biden administration has so far resisted calls for direct military intervention, opting instead for limited intelligence support.

As the Houthis seize territory and threaten international shipping, the need for decisive action to secure the region and neutralize this terrorist threat becomes increasingly urgent.

The international community, including the UN Security Council, has acknowledged the necessity of maintaining freedom of navigation, yet the Houthis remain emboldened, continuing to launch missiles and drones in a desperate bid to project power on behalf of their Iranian handlers.
