Putin’s Rubber-Stamp Parliament Confirms Total Control

The Kremlin’s predictable election result serves as a calculated mandate for the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The results of Russia’s latest election were a foregone conclusion, confirming that the Kremlin’s grip on the State Duma remains absolute.

United Russia, the party of power, is set to retain its constitutional majority with even greater margins than before, despite the mounting costs of the war in Ukraine, economic strain, and recent fuel shortages caused by Ukrainian drone strikes.

The election process left no room for dissent; the only anti-war party, Yabloko, was purged from the ballot by the Supreme Court just days after registration, and its remaining candidates failed to secure a single seat. Party chairman Nikolai Rybakov noted that the Duma remains a monolith of support for Putin, with no expectation of legislative independence.

While Ukraine launched drone attacks on the Moscow region during the voting period, the Russian public displayed a stoic resignation, with many citizens accustomed to the reality of a nation at war. The Kremlin will undoubtedly leverage this manufactured mandate to justify its future military decisions.

While Putin has publicly dismissed the need for a new wave of mobilization, the election result provides the regime with the political cover to escalate its war efforts whenever it deems necessary.
