In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, a Russian drone successfully struck the headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the heart of Kyiv on Friday. The unmanned aerial vehicle targeted a room utilized by security chief Oleksandr Poklad, marking a rare and precise hit on a key Ukrainian government facility.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the strike, stating that he has instructed Poklad to deliver a tangible, mirror-image response against Russian targets. While the exact status of the security chief during the attack remains unclear, the strike resulted in five injuries and caused collateral damage to a nearby café.

This tactical hit comes as Moscow continues to deploy advanced, jet-powered drones that are increasingly difficult for air defenses to intercept. The Russian Ministry of Defense also reported strikes on maritime targets in Chornomorsk and Odesa, signaling a broader intensification of their offensive capabilities.

The timing of the strike is particularly notable, occurring just before U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to meet with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky this weekend.

As the Trump administration continues its push to broker a peace deal, this latest aggression underscores the volatile reality on the ground, where diplomatic efforts are constantly tested by the brutal realities of war.
