Russian Fuel Crisis Deepens as Ukrainian Drone Strikes Cripple Refineries

The consequences of the ongoing conflict have reached the streets of Moscow, where drivers are enduring hours-long queues for petrol as the country grapples with a severe fuel shortage. The crisis, driven by successful Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries, has left authorities struggling to maintain supply chains and refining capacity.

In a desperate bid to stabilize the market, the Russian government has resorted to importing petrol and authorizing the sale of low-grade, high-sulfur Euro 2 fuel—a product previously banned in 2013 due to its potential to damage modern engines.

While President Vladimir Putin continues to downplay the impact of these strikes, claiming there are no 'critical consequences,' the reality on the ground tells a different story.

Beyond the gas pumps, the war is disrupting commerce and fueling rising anxiety among the populace, who are increasingly forced to adapt to a reality where the horizon for planning is shrinking.

Despite the state-sponsored displays of patriotism and military-themed events for children, the disconnect between the Kremlin’s messaging and the daily struggle for basic resources is becoming impossible to ignore.
