The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have issued a stern condemnation after an image surfaced online showing an Israeli soldier striking a statue of Jesus with a sledgehammer in the Lebanese village of Debel.

Israeli leadership, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, expressed deep regret over the incident, with the IDF confirming the soldier's conduct was entirely inconsistent with the values and standards expected of its troops.

The military has promised that appropriate measures will be taken against the individuals involved and is currently coordinating with the local Christian community to restore the statue. While the incident has drawn sharp criticism from various political figures in the United States, the Israeli government maintains its commitment to religious freedom.

Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized that Israel remains the only country in the region where the Christian population is growing and where freedom of worship is strictly protected.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of a broader conflict between Israel and the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, which has seen intense fighting and significant displacement in the region.

As the IDF continues its operations to secure the border, it remains focused on maintaining the professional standards of its forces while navigating the complex realities of an active war zone.
