The reality of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine was brought into sharp focus this weekend as professional tennis player Dayana Yastremska revealed that her family's apartment in Odesa was destroyed by a Russian Kalibr cruise missile.

Yastremska, a semifinalist at the 2024 Australian Open, posted images of the burning residential building on social media, noting that the only item to survive the wreckage was a towel from the Roland Garros tournament.

This latest attack on the Black Sea port city was part of a broader missile and drone strike that left 37 people injured, including an infant, and resulted in two individuals going missing. Yastremska used her platform to call on the Women's Tennis Association and the International Tennis Federation to witness the devastation caused by the Kremlin’s forces.

This is not an isolated incident; Ukrainian athletes have frequently been targeted during the full-scale invasion, with the home of national football star Heorhiy Sudakov also suffering severe damage from a Russian drone strike last year.

As the conflict continues, the destruction of civilian infrastructure remains a hallmark of Russia's campaign against Ukrainian sovereignty.
