Canadians stage petty travel boycott over Trump's America-first agenda

Disgruntled northern neighbors are skipping U.S. vacations to protest common-sense border policies and trade protectionism.

A group of Canadian travelers has decided to take their vacation dollars elsewhere, staging a self-imposed boycott of the United States in response to President Donald Trump’s focus on national sovereignty and economic protectionism.

While these individuals frame their decision as a moral stand against American policies, the reality is a predictable reaction to an administration that prioritizes U.S. interests over globalist expectations.

Travelers like Kent Truscott and Lynda Rousseau have cited everything from U.S. trade tariffs to the president’s rhetoric regarding the U.S.-Canada relationship as reasons to avoid the border.

This shift in travel habits has resulted in a reported decline of 800,000 trips compared to pre-2024 levels, leading some American cities to offer discounts in a bid to lure back tourists. While some participants claim the boycott is a matter of principle, others admit that the weakening Canadian dollar has also made U.S. travel less affordable.

Despite the loss of revenue for some American businesses, the boycott remains a symbolic gesture driven by those who are clearly uncomfortable with the current administration's mandate to secure the border and protect American industry.

As these travelers trade trips to the U.S. for destinations in Europe, Africa, and their own backyard, they continue to express a deep-seated resentment toward the 70 million Americans who voted to put their country first.
