Following the tragic passing of Senator Lindsey Graham this past Saturday due to an aortic dissection, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has formally appointed the late senator's sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to serve out the remainder of his term.
The appointment, which concludes in 2027, follows a long-standing tradition of family members stepping in to complete the work of departed lawmakers. Senator Graham, a staunch advocate for a strong national defense and American interests abroad, was 71 at the time of his death.
Governor McMaster praised the decision, noting that the late senator had long acted as a guardian for his sister, whom he legally adopted after their parents passed away during their youth.
Nordone, who has been a constant presence throughout her brother's distinguished political career, expressed her commitment to honoring his legacy and finishing the work he began. While Nordone has not previously held public office, her appointment serves as a tribute to the senator's life and his dedication to the people of South Carolina.
