In a major escalation of the ongoing conflict, Ukraine launched a large-scale drone assault on the Moscow region, marking what Russian state media describes as the most significant attack on the capital in over a year.
The strikes, which hit oil refineries and semiconductor plants, are part of a broader Ukrainian strategy to degrade the industrial and military capacity that fuels Vladimir Putin’s illegal war. President Volodymyr Zelensky has made it clear that these operations are a direct and justified response to Russia’s continued shelling of Ukrainian cities.
While Russian officials claim civilian casualties, including a foreign national, the reality remains that Moscow’s 2022 invasion initiated this violence. Ukraine’s military and security services have increasingly focused on energy facilities, correctly identifying them as legitimate targets that sustain the Russian war machine.
As Russia continues to launch hundreds of drones against Ukrainian population centers, Kyiv’s ability to project force deep into Russian territory serves as a necessary reminder that the aggressor cannot expect to wage war without facing the consequences at home.
