The regime is attempting to frame the ceremonies as a 'funeral of the century,' with authorities claiming they expect millions to attend as the body lies in state at Tehran's Grand Mosalla. The strike that killed Khamenei in February was a necessary blow against a regime that has long served as a primary sponsor of regional instability.
While the regime attempts to project power and influence through these processions—which will extend into Iraq and conclude in Mashhad—the reality remains that the strike successfully decapitated a hostile leadership.
President Donald Trump, addressing the situation from Mount Rushmore, noted that the US provided a temporary window for these ceremonies as negotiations to end the conflict continue. Despite the orchestrated displays of grief and the attendance of various regional figures, the fact remains that the regime is reeling from the loss of its top leader.
