Fifa President Gianni Infantino is facing an intensifying revolt from within the ranks of global football governance. Senior sources from Uefa have confirmed that opponents are now threatening a policy of 'non-cooperation' with the governing body unless Infantino steps down.

This mutiny follows Infantino’s disastrous attempt to force through a plan to sell off stakes in Fifa competitions—including the World Cup—to a private venture capital firm.

The backlash has been swift, with Uefa threatening legal action and demanding the preservation of all communications related to the proposal, which they have labeled an 'abysmal governance process.' European football associations, including Wales and England, have publicly withdrawn their support for Infantino’s re-election bid, joining a growing list of nations including Serbia, Sweden, and Finland.

While Infantino has attempted to buy loyalty by dangling $40 million in payouts to member associations who back his scheme, the pressure is mounting. Uefa vice-president Laura McAllister has made it clear that the era of unilateral, unaccountable decision-making must end, calling for a change in leadership.

With the Fifa Council holding the power to trigger an emergency meeting to force a resignation, the organization is more divided than ever.

Infantino, who still retains support in parts of Africa and South America, now faces a critical battle to maintain his grip on power as his opponents seek to isolate him and identify a viable challenger for next year’s election.
