The Ethiopian military has taken firm action to repel Tigrayan forces following a renewed outbreak of hostilities that threatens to destabilize the region.

In its first official statement since the conflict reignited on Wednesday, the army confirmed that it successfully countered attacks in the Amhara region, inflicting heavy casualties on militants and seizing their weapons.

This confrontation follows a provocative move by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), which brazenly seized control of three airports from federal police. The TPLF's aggression extends beyond the border, with reports indicating heavy artillery strikes in the Afar and Amhara regions.

TPLF leadership has openly signaled its intent to oust the federal government, having recently formed an alliance with other armed factions. While the TPLF claims the country is in a state of 'full-blown war,' the federal government is acting to maintain national sovereignty and enforce the rule of law.

The current unrest follows months of friction regarding the 2022 peace agreement, which the TPLF has repeatedly undermined. As the military works to secure the region, Ethiopian Airlines has suspended flights to Tigray, and local residents in Mekelle report a tense atmosphere as the nation grapples with the consequences of this renewed insurgency.
