Jenny Racicot, 41, alleged that Platner entered her home uninvited while intoxicated and sexually assaulted her, a claim Platner has labeled as 'false.' Despite his denials, the accusation triggered an immediate exodus of support from top-tier Democrats, including Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, as well as the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which pulled its financial backing.
Platner, a military veteran who campaigned on a populist platform, saw his candidacy marred by a history of troubling behavior, including past Reddit comments suggesting sexual assault victims should take responsibility for their own intoxication and reports of a tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol.
Further reports from the New York Times detailed a pattern of erratic behavior and infidelity, which ultimately rendered his campaign untenable. Platner stated he is suspending operations but has yet to officially withdraw, demanding a 'transparent' process for his replacement.
