Newsom Cries Political Persecution as Federal Probes Target His Inner Circle

California Governor claims DOJ investigations into his wife and former staff are a 'hit list' retaliation for his opposition to Donald Trump.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is lashing out at the Department of Justice, claiming that federal investigations into his wife and former staff members are nothing more than a political 'hit list' orchestrated by President Donald Trump.

In a video released Monday, Newsom alleged that federal agents are harassing his family and associates because he is a potential 2028 presidential contender.

However, sources familiar with the situation tell a different story, noting that these investigations have been ongoing for roughly a year and originated from California-based whistleblowers and government sources, not the White House.

Federal prosecutors in Sacramento are reportedly looking into matters involving Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, as well as the activities of his former aides. The governor’s attempt to paint himself as a victim of corruption ignores the reality of his administration's history.

His former chief of staff, Dana Williamson, already pleaded guilty to federal charges in May for a campaign finance fraud scheme involving bank and wire fraud.

While Newsom’s office insists Williamson’s criminal conduct was unrelated to him, the governor’s desperate pivot to conspiracy theories suggests he is more concerned with protecting his national brand than addressing the legal scrutiny surrounding his orbit.

By positioning himself as a foil to Trump, Newsom is clearly looking to rally his base, but the facts suggest these investigations are the result of internal California issues, not a federal conspiracy.
