The British government is attempting to regain control of its borders by signing a massive £600 million deal with Paris, a move designed to stop the endless stream of illegal migrants crossing the Channel in small boats.

This taxpayer-funded initiative will see an increased deployment of riot police on French beaches to intercept those attempting to breach British sovereignty.

In a rare display of accountability, the Home Office has stipulated that a portion of this funding will be cut off after one year if the French authorities fail to deliver a measurable reduction in illegal crossings.

While bureaucrats continue to manage the fallout of this crisis, the reality remains that those gathering in camps on the French coast are there by choice, ignoring the rule of law in pursuit of illegal entry.

This deal represents a significant financial commitment from the UK, and the public will be watching closely to see if it finally produces the border security that should have been a priority long ago.
