Colombia’s new president launches aggressive crackdown on narco-terrorists

President Abelardo de la Espriella delivers a lethal message to rebel factions, ending the failed 'total peace' era of his predecessor.

A screengrab from a video shared by Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella shows a photo of Hernando Forero Mosquera, aka "El Ruso", accused of being a leader of a dissident Farc rebel faction. He is wearing a cap in camouflage colours and a shirt, also in camouflage colours.

Colombia has officially turned the page on the disastrous 'total peace' experiment that defined the previous administration. President Abelardo de la Espriella, who was sworn into office just days ago, has wasted no time in fulfilling his campaign promise to relentlessly target narco-terrorism.

In a swift and successful military operation in Meta province, security forces neutralized Hernando Forero Mosquera—a notorious dissident leader of the Farc-linked Frente 28—along with several other militants.

Forero, known as 'El ruso,' was a key explosives expert for a group that has long terrorized the region through cocaine trafficking and illegal mining.

The new president’s firm stance stands in stark contrast to his predecessor, Gustavo Petro, whose naive attempts to negotiate with armed groups resulted in repeated ceasefire violations and increased violence.

The criminals have responded with predictable cowardice, launching a car bomb in Cauca and a drone-based attack in Cesar that claimed the life of a police officer. However, the state is no longer backing down.

With the full backing of the United States and a $1 billion security assistance package, President de la Espriella is signaling that the era of coddling bandits is over.

By joining the 'Shield of the Americas' alliance, Colombia is reclaiming its sovereignty and demonstrating that the only way to deal with organized crime is through superior force and unwavering resolve.
